I wanted to buy a drum kit but my wife said she’d hate the noise! So I joined Coventry Hospital Radio. More to the point, it’s great to be able to entertain and help people going through a difficult time.
Music always playing at home in the 50s: Broadway musicals, Nat ‘King’ Cole and Frank Sinatra, big bands and classical music. And then along came rock ‘n’ roll, 208 and the Swinging Sixties.
Home was in Birmingham: great 60s music scene with rock bands, jazz and folk. I played drums: then sensibly put career first! Job move to Oxford early 70s and my first stint at hospital radio: nearer London so able to hear Capital Radio. Great DJs – Roger Scott, Nicky Horne and the incredible Kenny Everett. Radio has always been my interest and companion.
My show is “Feel Good Wednesday”. You bring your memories, let the music lift your mood and we can make it a feel better Wednesday.
I’m now living quietly – no drums – with “Mrs G” and Reggie our Norfolk terrier in Stratford-upon-Avon.
