Forty Two years after hitting the airwaves. Coventry Hospital Radio have now hit the world wide web by taking its shows online. CHR held a 48 hour live relay broadcast which started at 16.00 on Friday 5th September 2014 to launch the station onto the web.
As well as providing a lifeline to many patients in the wards of Coventry University Hospital, the volunteers can now let patients' friends and family also tune in. From the top floor of Coventry University Hospital a dedicated group of volunteers have kept Coventry Hospital Radio running for over four decades since the hospital radio station was established in 1972. 'When we visited the patients, their relatives always asked if they could listen at home and we had to say no, sorry it's only internal. But it's great now to be able to say yes, you listen online via the CHR website.
The station broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year.
Patients can access Coventry Hospital Radio through the Hospedia bedside units, with many shows playing patient requests. The stations huge music library has thousands of tracks loaded in the computer as well as hundreds of CD's which allows the presenters to find most of the requests, which are collected from patients on the wards by our dedicated request collectors.
